3. Doha International Book Fair 2022

The Doha International Book Fair is one of the oldest and largest international book fairs in the region and enjoys a good reputation due to the high demand from Arab, Gulf and foreign countries participating in it.

Since 2010, Doha International Book Fair is selecting one of the countries as ‘Guest of Honour’ of the exhibition and so far the United States, Russia, Turkey, Iran, Japan, Brazil and Germany have had the honour of becoming the guest of honour in the Fair. France will be the Guest of Honour of the 30th edition of the Doha International Book Fair this year.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, many cultural events are held like seminars, lectures, workshops etc. This year, as many as 37 countries will participate in the book fair. The number of direct publishers reached 430, while the number of agencies is 90.

The 31st Doha International Book Fair comes in line with Qatar’s Vision 2030, which aims to develop the knowledge economy and the Ministry of Culture's vision “towards a society with an authentic conscience and a healthy body”, in addition to reflecting the state of the country’s cultural scene.

Qatari publishing houses such as Dar Al Thaqafah Printing Press, Hamad Bin Khalifa University Press, Katara Publishing House, Qatar University Press, Rosa Publishing House, Zakrit Publishing House, Dar Al Watad for Publishing and Distribution, Dar Al Sharq Printing, Publishing and Distribution, Nabja House for Publishing and Distribution and Nawa Publishing House will have distinguished participation in the book fair.

COVID-19 Precautionary Measures & Entry:

• In line with health regulations imposed by authorities, only 30% of the venue’s capacity will be allowed to attend the book fair at any one time.
• Entry and exit will be heavily monitored to avoid overcrowding and social distancing measures will be implemented at all times.
• Pre-registration will be required through an electronic link and only fully vaccinated people or those who have recovered from Covid-9 within the last 12 months will be allowed in.
• The visit to the exhibition will be limited to vaccinated, including children 12 years and over, who completed 14 days after taking the second dose or recovered from COVID-19 for a period of no less than 12 months.
• It is also mandatory for all visitors to show GREEN Ehteraz to enter.

Curated by Massimiliano Gioni, the exhibition provides a unique view into the exceptional career of one of the world’s best-known contemporary artists, whose work bridges Pop, Minimalism and the readymade. This is Koons’ first exhibition in the Gulf region.

4. Al Thuraya Planetarium shows in Katara

Occupying 2,240sqm area, the planetarium is expected to become one of the main attractions at Katara. It offers a rare experience to visitors, blending education and entertainment, especially students, families and astronomy enthusiasts.
The main component of the planetarium is a full-dome digital system with a seating capacity of 200 people, 4 seats for the disabled and another 4 for the elderly. It features a 22-meter screen, equipped with state-of-the-art digital projectors showing 2D and 3D tutorial shows.
