There will be no discount on fines for using a mobile phone while driving, according to a senior official from the General Directorate of Traffic. Captain Mohamed Rabia al-Kuwari, the Officer of the Violations Department at the General Traffic Department, stated on Qatar Radio that the fine for using a mobile phone while driving is QR 500, and no discounts will apply to this violation. This strict stance is due to the significant impact of mobile phone use on traffic accidents, public property, and road safety, accounting for 50 to 60% of traffic accidents along with seatbelt violations.
On the other hand, a discount will be offered for seatbelt violation fines if paid within 30 days. A 50% discount is available for certain traffic violations settled within a month of the violation being recorded. Captain Al-Kuwari also mentioned that the new unified radar system can detect three violations simultaneously, including not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, and overspeeding.
The unified radar system was recently launched to enforce seat belt and mobile phone usage violations while driving. Drivers have the option to contest violations through Metrash 2 or the MoI website, with responses provided within a week by the authorities responsible for the unified radar system.
