UN Secretary General
The UN Secretary-General's special adviser on Libya Stephanie Williams said that the focus must continue to be on the holding of free, fair and inclusive national elections in the shortest possible time.
Williams said on Twitter she highlighted in her meeting with both prime minister designate Fathi Bashagha and head of the national unity government Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah, the need to go forward in an inclusive, transparent, and consensual manner, and to maintain stability in Tripoli and throughout the country.
On Thursday, the Libya's House of Representatives (HoR) unanimously voted for Fathi Bashagha to become the country's prime minister, while Stephane Dujarric, the spokesman for UN Secretary-General said that the UN still recognizes Libya's Prime Minister Abdul Hamid al-Dbeibah.
Dujarric said that Stephanie Williams is currently engaging with all key interlocutors to get a clearer picture of what has been agreed.Â
