The Corniche Closure Committee has announced a plan to regulate the high level of vehicle traffic in Doha during the Lusail Super Cup which will be held on Friday, September 9.

The plan, which will be implemented from 3-10 PM, will divert vehicles with general transport number plates and black private transport number plates away from central Doha.

The roads that will be affected are as follows: A-Ring Road, B-Ring Road, C-Ring Road, Ahmed Bin Ali Street, Al Jamiaa Street, Al Khafji Street, Corniche Street, Al Bidda Street, Onaiza and all intersecting roads and streets.

People who own only one vehicle, with either a general transport number plate or private black number plate, as well as Mowasalat and Qatar Rail public transport vehicles, are exempted from the plan and will be able to access these roads.

First Lieutenant Khalid Al Mulla, Head of the Technical Team, Corniche Closure Committee, said: “The plan is part of the travel demand management measures developed by the Corniche Closure Committee to minimise traffic during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and ensure smooth mobility operations for public and private transport vehicles throughout the country.”

Engineer Abdulaziz Al Mawlawi, Technical Team Member, Corniche Closure Committee, said: “This plan is being implemented on a trial basis during the Lusail Super Cup to assess its effectiveness in improving the flow of traffic around the country. Based on the results, we may look to implement similar plans during this year’s FIFA World Cup, as we work with our various stakeholders in the Corniche Closure Committee to ensure smooth transport operations and experiences in central Doha.”
