A dugong was found lifeless, entangled in a fishing net off Al Wakra Coast

A dead dugong, found entangled in a fishing net, was recovered near the shoreline of the Old Al Wakrah Souq.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, in collaboration with the Ministry of Municipality—represented by Al Wakrah Municipality—retrieved the marine mammal, sharing an image of the dugong being pulled from the water on its official platform.

Specialized teams transported the carcass to the Sealine area, where they collected samples and conducted scientific studies to support ongoing conservation efforts for this vulnerable species.

The dugong was later buried following established environmental protocols.

The Ministry has since issued a reminder to fishermen and sea-goers to refrain from discarding fishing nets at sea, emphasizing the serious threat they pose to marine wildlife, including the risk of entanglement and fatality.
