Amir of Qatar Receives Call from Iranian President Amid Rising Tensions

His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, received a phone call today from HE Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, following the recent attack on Al Udeid Air Base.

At the outset of the call, His Highness reiterated Qatar’s strong condemnation of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's attack, describing it as a blatant violation of Qatar’s sovereignty, airspace, international law, and the United Nations Charter.

The Amir emphasized that such actions contradict the spirit of good neighborliness and the close historical ties that exist between Qatar and Iran. He noted that Qatar has consistently advocated for dialogue with Iran and has invested significant diplomatic efforts to promote peace in the region.

Highlighting the urgency of the situation, His Highness called for an immediate halt to all military operations and urged a serious return to negotiations to resolve the crisis and safeguard regional stability and the well-being of its people.

In response, President Pezeshkian expressed his regret over the incident and apologized to His Highness and the Qatari people for the damage caused. He clarified that Qatar was not the intended target of the operation and that the incident does not pose a threat to the State of Qatar.

President Pezeshkian reaffirmed that Qatar remains a brotherly Muslim nation and a valued neighbor, expressing his hope that bilateral relations will continue to be based on mutual respect, sovereignty, and peaceful cooperation.
