Ashghal launches Qatar Aeronautical Academy Development Project to advance aviation training

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has announced the start of the Qatar Aeronautical Academy Development Project in Ras Bu Abboud, a strategic initiative designed to elevate the country’s aviation education and training infrastructure to international standards. The project reflects Qatar’s vision of preparing highly qualified national talent capable of leading the aviation sector, while reinforcing Doha’s position as a regional hub for aviation, education, and specialized training.

Ashghal confirmed that the development will include the design and construction of several advanced facilities within the academy campus. Among the most notable are a Flight Operations and Pilot Training Building, an Air Traffic Control and Airport Operations Simulation Building, and a new Aircraft Support Services Hangar at Doha International Airport. Together, these facilities will provide an integrated training environment aligned with the highest global benchmarks.

The project also encompasses the renovation and expansion of student accommodation facilities to increase capacity and improve living standards. A comprehensive master plan will ensure optimal use of space and seamless movement across the campus. Sustainability is a core component, with upgrades designed in line with the Global Sustainability Assessment System (GSAS). These include enhanced energy and water efficiency, improved indoor environmental quality, eco‑friendly materials, and smart solutions to reduce environmental impact while boosting operational efficiency.

Engineer Dana Sulaiman Al Hammadi emphasized that the project has been designed to meet the latest international requirements, particularly those of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027, the development will feature a state‑of‑the‑art Air Traffic Control Simulation Building covering 1,902 square metres, a Student Activities Building of 1,000 square metres, and refurbished student housing spanning 2,200 square metres.

The new Aircraft Support Services Hangar will include a 2,047‑square‑metre hangar and 647 square metres of office space, equipped with advanced ventilation systems and integrated facilities for aircraft storage, maintenance, and training.

Ashghal stressed that the project reflects its commitment to delivering strategic infrastructure in line with international best practices, ensuring safety, sustainability, and efficiency while supporting Qatar’s long‑term development aspirations.
