Car accidents can happen to anyone, even to the most careful drivers. Whether it’s a small scratch in a parking lot or a serious collision on the road, it’s important to know what to do next. Handling the situation calmly and correctly can save you time, money, and legal trouble.
1. Stop Your Car and Stay Calm
The first legal obligation is to stop immediately and turn on your hazard lights to warn other drivers. Even if the damage seems minor or there are no visible dents, you must stop and move your car to a safe side of the road. Check if anyone is injured first then if there are injuries, call 999 right away for police and ambulance assistance.
Leaving an accident without reporting it is considered a serious legal offense in Qatar. The Ministry of Interior may impose a QAR 1,000 fine and 3 black points on your license if you fail to move your car from the road after a minor accident.

For minor accidents where both drivers agree on the circumstances and no injuries have occurred, the incident can be reported digitally through the Metrash2 mobile application, eliminating the need to wait for the police at the scene.

In cases of major accidents, such as those involving severe damage or injuries, do not move your vehicle under any circumstances. Call 999 immediately to request assistance.
The police will arrive at the scene to assess the situation, gather evidence, and determine who was at fault. Make sure to provide your driving license, vehicle registration (Istimara), and insurance details. The police will then issue an official report which is identified by the following color:
