Malls and Shopping Centers Kick Off Back to School Promotions
Most malls, shopping centers, and stationery shops have begun offering back-to-school promotions as the new academic year 2024-25 is set to begin in a few weeks.
Residents have started visiting stationery stores and hypermarkets participating in these promotions, purchasing school bags and stationery items like notebooks, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners for their children.
The Peninsula interviewed several parents to gather their opinions on the back-to-school offers in local markets.
Parents noted that shopping centers and malls are stocking large quantities of back-to-school items, though some mentioned that prices are higher this year compared to last year.
"Back-to-school items like bags and stationery available here are of good quality, but I've noticed a significant price increase compared to last year," said Shifa Ryad, a mother of four.
She mentioned that the rising prices of stationery put additional strain on parents, especially those with multiple children.
Joseline, a mother of two, observed that the prices of supplies this year are nearly the same as last year's.
Ateeq Ahmed, a father of four, stated that the prices of school supplies have remained unchanged this year.
Shopkeepers noted a strong demand for school supplies and anticipate even more buyers in the coming weeks.
"The demand for supplies has picked up since the beginning of this week, with most of our sales being bags, notebooks, and pens," said Abu Ahmad, a shopkeeper in Al Matar.
He added that the demand for school supplies will likely surge in the coming days as schools are set to reopen in three weeks.
"We have ordered fresh stocks of school supplies like bags, pencil cases, lunch boxes, backpacks, and sports bottles for students of all grades in large quantities," said Abu Ahmad.
