Minister of Culture Honors 4th University Poet Competition Winners
HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani honored the winners of the 4th University Poet competition, held from May 11-20.
The competition was organized by the Ministry of Culture, represented by the Qatar Poetry Center (Diwan Al Arab) in collaboration with Qatar University alongside civil and military universities and colleges.
The honoring ceremony was held at Qatar University in the presence of a group of university officials, intellectuals, and students.
In the category of eloquent poetry, the poet Muhammad Aflaj from Mauritania won the first place, followed by the poet Hamad Salem Al Rashdi from Qatar in second place, then Adel Muhammad Abdel Hameed from Pakistan in third place, all from Qatar University.
As for the Nabati poetry category, poet Saeed Ali Al Afeer, from the Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College, won first place, followed by Hamad Jaber Al Jarhab winning second place, and Mohammed Saleh Al Nabit came in third place, with both 2nd and 3rd place winners being from Qatar University. All winners in this category are Qataris.
In a speech during the ceremony, poet and Director of Diwan Al Arab Shabib bin Arar Al Nuaimi stressed the Center's keenness on making poetry an expression of morals and values, such as courage and chastity. Since its inception, the competition has adopted an ethical code in order to disseminate these values and ethics through the cultural and social spheres, he noted.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the honored poets expressed their happiness with the support their creative talents receive from the Qatar Poetry Center, adding that the competition serves as a catalyst for them to continue on their creative and artistic paths.
