Ministry of Public Health Issues Warning on Contaminated Teff Flour-Crackers and Schar Knusperprot Products
The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the consumption of certain food products due to potential health risks. The MOPH specifically cautioned against Teff Flour-crackers products with expiration dates of July 30, October 17, and October 27, 2023. Additionally, consumers are advised against consuming "Schar Knusperprot Dunkel" products originating from Spain, which bear expiration dates of March 2-3-4-6, and April 4, 2024.
The MOPH's warning stems from a notification received from the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF), which raised concerns about the aforementioned products. After further investigation, it was discovered that both sets of products have been suspected of contamination with "Atropine and scopolamine" in higher levels than permitted.
To reduce the potential risks associated with the consumption of these products, the Ministry of Public Health has taken immediate action. A circular has been issued to suppliers, instructing them to promptly collect and withdraw the affected products from the market. The MOPH urges consumers who have purchased these items to either dispose of them immediately or return them to the outlets where they were originally bought.
