Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has issued a reminder to motorists about the correct seating position for children in vehicles, stressing that child safety is a duty, not a choice.
In its statement, the Ministry clarified that allowing children under ten years old to sit in the front seat is a clear violation of traffic regulations and a major safety risk, as outlined in Clause (3) of Article (55) of the Traffic Law.
The MoI warned that children seated in the front are eight times more likely to suffer serious injuries than adults in the event of a crash.
“The airbag, designed for adult protection, can pose a deadly threat to children due to its force and their smaller body size,” the statement added.
Authorities urged that children must always be seated in the rear, secured in a properly fitted child safety seat appropriate for their age and weight, and that seatbelts should be worn on every journey.
The Ministry also cautioned parents and guardians never to leave children unattended inside a vehicle under any circumstance.
