Dr. Kamal Kharazi
HE Head of the Strategic Council for Iranian Foreign Relations Dr. Kamal Kharazi said that the nuclear agreement is imminent but depends on the political will of the US, which withdrew from the agreement in 2018.
In a dialogue session within the work of the ongoing Doha Forum, Dr. Kharazi affirmed Iran's desire to reach an agreement that guarantees its interests and does not conflict with its sovereignty and independence. He said that Iran wants to reach an agreement to have normal relations with other countries, adding that this is important for the Iranian economy and that they refuse to submit or do something against their independence.
Dr. Kharazi also stressed that Tehran is ready to conclude a just agreement that preserves Iran's national interests and wondered over the readiness of other partners.
He stressed his country's position on removing the Iranian Revolutionary Guard from the US terrorist list. Removing the Guard from the terrorist list is a very important matter that must happen and there are no concessions in this matter, because it is a national army, and it is an urgent matter from an economic point of view, Dr. Kharazi said.
He added that this is not the only problem and pointed out that there are about 500 Iranian individuals and entities that are subject to US sanctions, and all of them or part of them have a direct economic impact on economic relations between Iran and Western countries.
Dr. Kharazi also stressed the issue of guarantees demanded by Iran related to the US withdrawal from the agreement, adding that there must be a period of time to verify the lifting of sanctions and to ensure that Iran enjoys normal economic relations with others, and this is what the Iranian negotiators stress.
On his country's position on the war in Ukraine, Dr. Kharazi explained that Tehran's position is active and neutral and is communicating with the Russian and Ukrainian parties. He said that Iran does not accept the invasion of another country and believes that dialogue is the only way to solve this crisis.
He added, regardless of the loser and winner in this war, it is expected that a lot of strategic changes and division between the East and West will affect many regions in the world, including the Middle East, which it must be ready for.
