Over 500 Decorative Light Poles Installed at Corniche
The Supervisory Committee for the Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar has achieved another milestone, with the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) completing the installation of 557 “palm-frond design” decorative lights on Doha Corniche.
Ashghal, through a statement, said that a total of 1210 such lights will be installed while covering a total area of approximately 10 km.
The project was planned in view of the special identity of Doha Corniche and its strategic location in the waterfront that connects eastern coastal regions. It was decided to provide decorative lighting poles designed exclusively to highlight its identity connected to the local community. Ashghal, last year, signed contracts with as many local companies to provide decorative lighting poles to enhance the Doha Corniche and Central Doha areas.
Two local companies will supply locally manufactured poles to provide LED lighting along a 10km stretch on Doha Corniche from Ras Bu Abboud Bridge to Doha Cityscape Area, and along another two sq km in Central Doha.
The design of palm fronds was chosen for Doha Corniche especially to match the palm trees along the area, while the tree leaf designs were chosen in Central Doha to match the beautification and landscaping works going on in the region, besides enriching the Qatari identity.
The new lighting poles have distinct features considering the strategic importance of these locations and they are designed to reflect Qatari identity, using Qatari ideas and manufactured at Qatari manufacturing firms.
