Documents You Need for the Transfer

Qatar driving license transfer documents and process

Applicants should prepare the following before visiting the traffic department:

  • Original foreign driving license, valid and not expired
  • Valid Qatar ID, with an eligible profession listed
  • Valid passport
  • Eye test certificate from an approved optician
  • Two passport-sized photos with a white background
  • A No Objection Certificate from your employer, if required for your category
  • An attested, translated copy of your license if it isn't in English or Arabic

Only translators registered with Qatar's Ministry of Justice can handle official translations. Personal or unofficial translations get rejected at submission.

How the Transfer Process Works

Step 1: Confirm your nationality qualifies. Check the current approved list through the Ministry of Interior portal before gathering documents. Calling the traffic department directly can confirm eligibility quickly.

Step 2: Complete an eye test. This step applies to all applicants, regardless of nationality. Visit an approved optician and collect your certificate.

Step 3: Visit the traffic department. License transfers happen at traffic department service centers, not driving schools. The main center is in Al Dafna, though other locations exist across Qatar.

Step 4: Submit your documents and pay the fee. Staff review your paperwork before accepting your application. The transfer fee typically runs between QAR 100 and 200.

Step 5: Collect your new license. Processing usually takes five to ten working days. You'll receive an SMS notification once it's ready for pickup, either in person or through a PRO service.
