Qatar to Host eFIBA World Finals Seasons 4 and 5 in 2026 and 2027

The Qatar Basketball Federation has signed an agreement with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) to host the eFIBA World Finals for Season 4 in 2026 and Season 5 in 2027. This marks the first time the prestigious esports basketball event will be held in the Middle East, further solidifying Qatar's growing presence in both basketball and esports.

Taking over from the Philippines, the previous host, Qatar's selection reflects its commitment to advancing the esports ecosystem and promoting basketball globally. The event will take place in Doha, a city known for its world-class infrastructure, connectivity, and sustainability vision.

This move builds on Qatar’s increasing support for esports, highlighted by its recent appointment as the host of the Global Esports Games in 2027, through a partnership with the Global Esports Federation.

The eFIBA World Finals will bring together top e-basketball teams from around the world to compete for the title of eFIBA World Champion. All eyes will be on dethroning Team USA, the reigning champions of Seasons 2 and 3, held in Sweden and the Philippines respectively. A total prize pool of $50,000 will be shared among the top teams and standout players. More details on tournament structure and participating teams will be announced soon, with matches streamed live on eFIBA’s YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok channels.

FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis expressed his enthusiasm, stating:

"The eFIBA World Finals have grown into a key event, and hosting them in the lead-up to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 will only enhance their visibility. Qatar’s enthusiasm for basketball and innovation in esports is closely aligned with FIBA’s goals, and we look forward to delivering our best events yet."

Mohammed Al-Meghaiseeb, President of the Qatar Basketball Federation and Director General of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 LOC, added:

"Hosting Seasons 4 and 5 of the eFIBA World Finals is a proud milestone for Qatar. It highlights our vision to promote basketball through digital innovation and contributes directly to the buildup for the FIBA World Cup in 2027. We’re excited to welcome the world’s best e-basketball talent to Doha and reaffirm our commitment to hosting world-class sports events.”
