Qatar-Morocco 2024 Years of Culture kicked off Tuesday
The Qatar-Morocco 2024 Years of Culture kicked off Tuesday with a special exhibition of Berber jewelry from the Royal Palace at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.
The event will be opening to the public until May 20, showcasing a collection of silver jewelry, forming an important part of the permanent exhibition of Morocco's Oudayas belonging to the National Jewellery Museum in Rabat. It pays tribute to the craftsmen who painstakingly chiseled these exceptional pieces and to the women who have safeguarded these traditions.
The artifacts feature a variety of techniques, forms, and materials that reveal the regional characteristics of Morocco's main jewelry production centers and reflect the Kingdom's rich heritage, sublimating artistic know-how in wirework, inlay and the use of coral, amber, glass, pearls, and coins.
Enriched by a palette of Berber jewelry from the Royal Palace, the exhibition is organized by the National Museums Foundation of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Doha Museum of Islamic Art, Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Deputy Director of Museum of Islamic Art Shaika Al Nassr said the exhibition is the first event to be held within the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Years of Culture in which the museum showcases Amazigh antiques and jewelry to be showcased beyond the Moroccan borders for the first time, highlighting that the artifacts underscore Morocco's rich heritage, demonstrating artistry in wirework, inlaying, and the use of coral, amber, glass, beads, and coins.
For his part, president of the National Museums Foundation of Morocco Mehdi Qutbi told QNA that the exhibition is the best beautiful gift for the launch of the Qatar-Morocco 2024 Years of Culture which came to deepen the values of fraternity, friendship, and cultural exchange between the two nations, he added.
This was a momentous time for Qatar to host an exhibition of a country in North Africa, creating an opportunity to extend the cultural bridges, Qutbi said, adding that the event is a precious opportunity to internalize the cultures of the two nations.
