CEO of DFI Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi
Chief Executive Officer of the Doha Film Institute (DFI), Fatma Hassan Al Remaihi, underscored the significance of the annual edition of Qumra, the Doha Film Institute talent incubator, in promoting the critical stories that highlight inaudible sounds during films.
Speaking to Qatar News Agency (QNA) during a press conference at the Museum of Islamic Art, Al Remaihi emphasized the importance of the edition in forging long-term relationships between young filmmakers and experts in addition to promoting diverse and new cinematic voices in Qatar and the entire world.
Al Remaihi outlined that the DFI's programs have primarily focused on the Qatari community to back to the Qatari and local cinematic talents from all age groups, adding that DFI has supported the film industry in Qatar, and every year a remarkable breakthrough is made in several offered programs, in terms of production, direction and scenario writing, she noted.
This breakthrough is demonstrated in the projects currently underway and being carried out by a host of film producers and directors since the DFI-funded films that received the care won an array of awards in global festivals, underscoring the robust foundation DFI has created in selecting and supporting local and foreign film projects, she said.
Al Remaihi underlined that DFI relentlessly strives to promote Qatari film production with all means available to be offered to people all over the world, affirming that DFI is laser-focused on Arabic films because the global audience needs new materials. She highlighted that the audiences have changed their perspectives towards the Arab world accordingly, as most of the awards were won by the audience.
DFI's Artistic Advisor, Elia Suleiman, emphasized cinema is an art language innovated by humans, adding that he is concerned about the potential intervention of AI in the film industry creating inactive works in the field of innovation. He advocated for focusing on the human element in this field to project the credible feelings of operators in the cinema field onto the audience.
