Brazilian star Roberto Firmino has officially signed with Al Sadd SC, becoming the latest high-profile addition to the Qatar Stars League (QSL) side. The 33-year-old forward joins the reigning league champions on a two-year contract, the club confirmed on Wednesday.
Firmino makes the move from Al Ahli of the Saudi Pro League, where he spent just one season after his long and successful stint at Liverpool. During his time in Saudi Arabia, he registered 21 goals and 17 assists in 65 appearances, showcasing his enduring quality and versatility.
In a short video message to fans, Firmino expressed his excitement:
“I’m very happy to be here. Looking forward to the league’s start and to playing with the team.”
A proven performer at the highest level, Firmino brings invaluable experience to Al Sadd. At Liverpool, he made over 250 appearances and played a key role in their Premier League and Champions League-winning campaigns under Jürgen Klopp.
He now becomes the most experienced addition in Al Sadd’s summer transfer window, which has also seen the arrival of promising midfielders Agustin Soria from Uruguay and Pau Prim from Spain.
Firmino will join an already potent attack that features Qatari international Akram Afif and Spanish forward Rafa Mujica, who was the joint-top scorer for the club last season. He is also expected to compete for a frontline spot alongside fellow Brazilian Giovani Henrique and Qatari talent Yusuf Abdurisag.
With Firmino’s signing, Al Sadd not only bolsters its attacking options but also signals its intent to remain dominant in the QSL while making a mark in regional competitions.
