HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani was re-elected by acclamation as President of the Qatar Olympic Committee for the new Olympic term (2024-2028).

This took place during the 38th General Assembly meeting held today, chaired by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, and attended by members of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Olympic Committee and heads of Qatari sports federations and committees.

HE Mohamed bin Youssef Al Mana was also elected as First Vice President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, HE Dr. Thani bin Abdulrahman Al Kuwari as Second Vice President of the Olympic Committee, and HE Jassim bin Rashid Al Buainain as Secretary-General of the Committee.

During the meeting, HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani thanked the sports federations, praising the achievements of Qatari teams this year, most notably the champion Mutaz Barshim, who won the bronze medal in the Men's High Jump at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as the Qatari football team, which won the 2023 Asian Cup, and the Qatari handball team, which claimed the title at the 21st Asian Championship.

His Excellency urged the federations to make more efforts in preparation for the upcoming competitions for the Qatari teams.

The General Assembly began with approving the minutes of the previous General Assembly meeting No. 37 held in February 2023 and discussed the achievements of the Qatar Olympic Committee 2023-2024, and the most important upcoming events hosting, namely the 2025 World Table Tennis Championship, the 4th Gulf Games 2026, and the 2027 Qatar Basketball World Cup.

The meeting also highlighted the upcoming combined tournaments, namely: the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China in February 2025, the West Asian Youth Games in Baghdad, Iraq in April 2025, the Gulf Beach Games in the Sultanate of Oman in April 2025, the Asian Youth Games in Bahrain in September 2025, and the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in November 2025.

The meeting also discussed the report of the Technical Committee for Monitoring and Evaluating the Preparation of National Teams for the 21st Asian Games - Doha 2030, in addition to reviewing the Qatar Olympic Committee's budget for the fiscal years 2024-2025.
