Somali Army
The Somali authorities announced Saturday evening the killing of several leaders of the Al Qaeda-affiliated Al Shabaab movement and the destruction of three of their vehicles in an airstrike conducted by the Somali National Army in cooperation with international partners in the Ail Ba'ad region of Middle Shabelle province, southeast of the country.
According to the Somali News Agency (SONNA), the operation targeted a group of Al Shabaab elements and leaders who were planning attacks against Somali civilians.
This operation comes as part of the Somali Army's escalation of military efforts against the armed group's strongholds. In recent months, the army has successfully regained control of several areas previously held by Al Shabaab, particularly in the central region of the country.
