Two Schools Affiliated With Qatar Foundation Received The Eco-Schools Green Flag Award.

Two Qatar Foundation schools earned the Eco-Schools Green Flag

Awsaj Academy and Qatar Academy Al Khor, part of Qatar Foundation’s Pre-University Education, have received the Eco-Schools Green Flag. This initiative acknowledges students' dedication to preserving the local environment.

The award program spans two years and encompasses three key components: following the Seven Steps Framework involving tasks like forming an eco-committee, conducting sustainability audits, and creating action plans; focusing on Eco-Schools Themes like Biodiversity & Nature, Climate Change, Energy, and Food; and culminating in an assessment for the Green Flag.

Lina F. Mouchantaf, Director of Qatar Academy Al Khor (QAK), expressed immense pride in her students' outstanding achievements. She emphasized their dedication to integrating sustainability into their daily lives, promoting the creation of an environmentally aware community.

Highlighting the award's importance, Mouchantaf stressed that receiving the Green Flag places a significant responsibility on their school to extend these values school-wide and ideally to society. Maurice Al Haddad, Lead Teacher of Awsaj Academy’s Eco-Schools Club, stated that at Awsaj Academy, they've cultivated an environmentally conscious culture, aiming to leave a positive impact on the planet for future generations.

"Our efforts have been demanding, but the promise of a more environmentally friendly and promising future justifies every challenge. This recognition inspires us to persist on our path toward sustainability."

Mohammed Al Abdulla, President of Awsaj Academy’s Eco-Schools Club and an Awsaj Academy student, expressed that the Green Flag award has not only enriched their academic curriculum but also enhanced their overall educational journey. He emphasized how it exposed them to various environmental issues, fostering a deeper comprehension of their impact on the interconnected systems of the planet. Workshops, guest speakers, and field trips covering topics like climate change and sustainable development empowered them to become proactive global citizens.

Ameera Al Kuwari, another student at Awsaj Academy, shared that participation in the Eco-School program allowed them to positively impact the environment while fostering strong connections within the student body and the broader community. Collaborating on projects, attending conferences, and engaging in environmental events provided unique opportunities to connect with individuals who share their passion for a sustainable future.

Qatar Academy Doha Primary and Qatar Leadership Academy, two other schools under Qatar Foundation (QF), were previously honored with the Eco-Schools Green Flag award, marking them as the initial QF schools acknowledged by the program.
