Vice President of Gambia passes away due to short illness

The Vice President of Gambia, Badara Alieu Joof has died of a short illness in India. This information was shared by President Adama Barrow.

Badara Alieu Joof, 65, was appointed vice president of the West African country in 2022. Previously, he served as the education minister from 2017 to 2022. 

The saddening news was informed by The President via a tweet.

“Fellow #Gambians, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing away of my  #VicePresident, His Excellency, Badara Alieu Joof. The sad event took place in India after a short illness. May Allah grant him Jannahtul Firdawsi.” - @BarrowPresident

Badara Alieu Joof traveled to India about three weeks ago to seek medical treatment for his illness
