Doha, Qatar: The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched the Roads and Infrastructure Development Project in Umm Slal Mohammed West, with a total investment exceeding one billion Qatari Riyals. The initiative forms part of Ashghal’s nationwide plan to enhance infrastructure services and support sustainable urban growth.
The project focuses on improving the internal road network and raising safety standards, alongside developing modern infrastructure systems to meet the needs of residents and future expansion in the area.
According to Eng. Noor Ashkanani, Project Engineer at Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department, the Umm Slal Mohammed West development will benefit approximately 747 citizen land plots. It includes the establishment of an internal road network that connects to key public facilities and major roads, such as Al Mazrouah Road. The project will also provide comprehensive infrastructure services — including sewage and rainwater drainage systems — to accommodate the area’s growing population and ongoing commercial developments.
The scope of works covers the construction of 36.5 km of internal roads equipped with over 1,200 street lighting poles, road signs, and markings. Additionally, 73 km of pedestrian pathways, 12 km of cycling tracks, and 5,000 parking spaces will be created. Landscaping will span 385,000 sqm to enhance the area’s environment.
Infrastructure enhancements will also include a 27 km sewage network, an 83 km stormwater and groundwater drainage system, 38 km of potable water pipelines, and a 24 km treated wastewater network.
Located between Al Mazrouah Road to the west and Umm Slal North Road to the northeast, the project covers an area of around 3.18 million sqm. To expedite completion and minimize disruption, the site has been divided into four zones that will be developed in sequence.
