Doha, December 04 (QNA) - The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has launched a special electronic portal for persons with disabilities on its official website, in conjunction with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The initiative celebrates this important segment of society and enables them to access all services through the creation of a comprehensive database.
In a statement today, the ministry said that the comprehensive database classifies persons with disabilities into four categories (hearing, visual, physical, and intellectual) in order to provide the necessary services and support to all employees with disabilities. The ministry added that this step aims to strengthen the rights of employees working at the ministry, empower them to perform their duties effectively, and ensure they receive all services, rights, and privileges available to them.
This initiative comes as the ministry announced the establishment of a team specialized in human rights and persons with disabilities, chaired by Director of the Department of Islamic Research and Studies Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani. The team will follow up on the affairs of employees with disabilities working at the ministry and ensure they receive all rights and privileges that guarantee a suitable and safe work environment, in addition to access to information, guidance, and electronic services designed to facilitate workflow and enhance the quality of professional life for people with disabilities.
In his speech during the launch of the electronic platform, Sheikh Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Ghanem Al-Thani stressed that the ministry’s human rights and disability team represents one of the pioneering initiatives through which the ministry seeks to leverage technology to serve persons with disabilities and enable them to access all rights and services they need while performing their duties. He added that the initiative reflects the ministry’s ongoing commitment to empowering this important segment of society and ensuring the participation of all employees in a fair and safe work environment.
He pointed out that launching the platform and establishing the team represent a major step in supporting the rights of persons with disabilities and demonstrate the ministry’s keenness to keep pace with the best initiatives and practices in this field. He said that the creation of the platform came after extensive meetings with employees with disabilities at the ministry to identify the types of services they need.
This pioneering step is aligned with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs’ vision and strategy to support and empower persons with disabilities. It also reaffirms its commitment to human rights principles guaranteed by Islamic law, which has given great attention to persons with disabilities, in a way that meets societal aspirations and enhances the ministry’s role in caring for and supporting individuals with disabilities.
