The Social and Economic Survey Research Institute at Qatar University has organized an international symposium on low-carbon transition strategies with the participation of a group of local and international experts, researchers and policy makers.
The symposium aimed to discuss the challenges posed by climate change and innovative solutions for the transition to sustainable energy use, and to shed light on policies and programs, especially in the GCC countries, to address these challenges.
Dr. Ayman Irbid, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University, said that this symposium serves the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
He added that addressing the phenomenon of climate change and preserving the environment tops the list of concerns of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, which have launched many institutions, strategies, laws and international cooperation programs to address this worrying phenomenon.
He noted that the efforts of the GCC countries are still ongoing to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce global warming, with more research and innovation programs, projects and green investments for economic diversification, developing new sectors and moving towards an alternative and sustainable economy based on clean energy and advanced technology.
The Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies at Qatar University confirmed that the university has placed the issue of climate change at the top of its priorities and included it in its various programs, plans, research, educational, training and other activities.
For her part, Dr. Kaltham Al Ghanem, Director of the Social and Economic Survey Research Institute at Qatar University, said that this symposium comes at a time when the world is witnessing major challenges resulting from climate change, which calls for researching alternative strategies for renewable energy to ensure the sustainability of resources and protect human health and the environment.
She added that the symposium sought to bring together an elite group of researchers and experts to discuss innovative policies based on scientific evidence, with a focus on empowering young generations to contribute to facing these challenges.
