Al Sadd Seek a Swift Comeback in Their Qatar SC Match
Reigning champions Al Sadd are aiming for a strong comeback in the Ooredoo Stars League (OSL) after an unexpected defeat to Al Shamal in their season opener.
The team, coached by Felix Sanchez, will face Qatar SC at Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday, as the league's second round kicks off tomorrow. Al Duhail and Al Rayyan currently hold the top two spots after impressive performances in the first week.
Earlier this week, Al Shamal stunned Al Sadd with a 2-1 victory, led by two goals from striker Baghdad Bounedjah, who recently left the Wolves after a long tenure with the club.
Al Sadd goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham emphasized the importance of staying focused, especially after winning the Amir Cup last season.
"We need to stay focused and work hard to meet our goals this season," Barsham said after the defeat. "Luck wasn’t on our side, as we missed several chances that could have changed the outcome. But it’s still early in the season, and the players will learn from this and improve in future matches."
Tomorrow’s highly anticipated clash between Al Duhail and Al Rayyan is expected to be the highlight of the second round, with fans looking forward to an exciting battle between the title contenders.
Al Duhail started the season with a dominant 6-1 win over Qatar SC, featuring a hat-trick by Kenyan striker Michael Olunga. Al Rayyan also impressed in their first match, defeating Umm Salal 3-1.
Another key matchup in the second round will be between Al Arabi and Al Wakrah at Al Thumama Stadium on Saturday, with both teams seeking their first victory of the OSL season. Al Arabi were held to a goalless draw by Al Shahania, while Al Wakrah shared points with Al Ahli after conceding a late goal in a 2-2 draw.
Al Shamal, looking to continue their winning momentum, will take on Umm Salal at Al Janoub Stadium tomorrow.
