Living in Qatar, whether you're a citizen or a resident, offers access to world-class public healthcare through a Government Health Card, commonly referred to as the Hamad Health Card.Â
This essential document allows you to receive medical services at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) facilities and Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) centres at subsidised rates.
Hereâs a comprehensive guide on how to apply for a Hamad Health Card, both offline and online through the new Narâaakom mobile app.
Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) is Qatarâs leading public healthcare provider, known for delivering high-quality, compassionate care. HMC operates a network of hospitals and clinics across the country, offering a wide range of healthcare services. Alongside HMC, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) runs more than 30 health centres, divided into three regions: Central, Western, and Northern.
From general consultations to optometry, vaccinations, urgent care, and more, these centres cater to the community's needs. However, to use these services, you must first apply for a Hamad Health Card.
Holding a Hamad Health Card is highly advantageous, whether you're complimenting your private insurance or relying entirely on public healthcare. The card grants you access to free or subsidised consultations, diagnostic tests, surgeries, medication, and even mental health services.Â
Some non-emergency treatments may require an additional fee, but cardholders still benefit from substantial cost reductions. You can also fill prescriptions at government-run pharmacies at discounted rates.
To apply for a Hamad Health Card, youâll need the following documents:
*Make sure to note your homeâs National Address, including building, street, and zone numbers, as youâll need these details during the application process.
To apply for a health card in person, follow these steps:
Single workers must submit their health card applications through their companyâs Public Relations Officer (Mandoob) at the Hamad Health Card Printing Office. Workers' Health Centers no longer offer this service.
Thanks to the launch of PHCCâs bilingual Narâaakom mobile app, you can now apply for a Hamad Health Card online. Here's how:
The fees for obtaining a Hamad Health Card are as follows:
*Note: Children born in Qatar can receive free medical care during their first year.
The card is valid for one year for expatriates and must be renewed annually. Renewal can be done online or at your local health centre, though a new card will not be issued after renewal; your old card remains valid.
If you lose your health card, the replacement fee is QR 100. If the card has expired, the cost for a new one is QR 200.
With your Hamad Health Card, you can book appointments via the Narâaakom app or by calling 107. For urgent care, dial 16000 for a phone or video consultation, or visit one of the nine PHCC 24-hour urgent care centres across Qatar.
In short, a Hamad Health Card is your gateway to quality healthcare in Qatar, offering you peace of mind and access to essential services at a fraction of the cost. Whether applying online or offline, the process is straightforward, ensuring you can focus on your health without worry.
