AirHelp, a data tech company specializing in passenger compensation, has released its World's Best Airport 2024 report, ranking 239 airports across 69 countries. Qatar's Hamad International Airport secured the top position with a score of 8.52 points. Cape Town Airport in South Africa and Nagoya Chuba Airport in Japan followed closely, ranking second and third with scores of 8.50 and 8.49 points, respectively.

Hamad International Airport, which was ranked fifth last year, achieved an impressive 8.3 points for on-time performance, 8.7 points in customer opinion, and 8.9 points for its food and shops. The airport is celebrated for having the best shops and restaurants and is ranked third for its service, facilities, and cleanliness.

The ranking methodology attributed 60% of the score to on-time performance, while customer opinion based on service quality, food, and shops accounted for the remaining 40%. The airports were evaluated using extensive real-world data from May 2023 to April 2024, along with insights from over 17,000 unique passenger ratings.

This year, AirHelp introduced a size category to the score, categorizing airports by the number of flights handled annually. Hamad International Airport ranked second in the category of airports handling between 100,000 to 250,000 flights.

Other highly-rated airports that did not make the top of AirHelp's list include Singapore's Changi Airport, ranked 24th with 77% of flights on time, and Dubai International Airport, ranked 64th with 72% of flights on time. London's Gatwick Airport ranked 237th with 6.53 points, while Heraklion Airport in Greece and Tunis Carthage Airport in Tunisia were the last two on the list, with scores of 6.51 and 5.35 points, respectively.

Recently, Hamad International Airport was also recognized as the World's Best Airport at the Skytrax World Airport Awards, ranking highly among 500 global contenders across key performance indicators.
