The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs has designated 183 mosques for Itikaf throughout Qatar.
Itikaf is an Islamic practice about staying last ten days in Mosques during Holy month of Ramadan, devoting oneself to (worship of Allah) during these days and staying away from worldly affairs.
Itikaf will be performed only designated mosques, said a statement. The age of Mutakif (individual performing Itikaf) should not be less than 15 years.
Those below 15 years should be accompanied with their guardians. Children below eight years are not allowed to perform Itikaf.
The ministry added that itikaaf in a mosque should be one of the mosques that were identified by the mosques administration, which took into account the location, the mosques being inclusive, and the readiness of its facilities to serve the guests.
The Ministry asked those planning to perform Itakaf should maintain personal hygienic, protect the belongings of mosques and avoid disturbing other worshipers.
They were also asked not to hang clothes on walls and pillars of mosques and sleep and eat only at designated places.
