Qatar National Library ( QNL) will organize Monday a workshop titled "Fighting Trafficking in Cultural Properties and Documentary Heritage" in partnership with the Ministry of Culture and embassies of the United States, Italy and France.
Held at the QNL's lecture Hall, the workshop seeks to enhance awareness of the illicit trafficking in cultural properties and support specialists concerned about countering this phenomenon.
HE Minister of State and QNL President Dr. Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari will deliver the opening speech. Among the lecturers in the workshop will be the Director of the Ministry of Culture's Libraries Department Jassim Al Buainain and a number of ambassadors to the State of Qatar.
Illicit trafficking in cultural properties reached grave levels in recent years, particularly in the regions inflicted by armed conflicts and natural disasters, posing huge concerns for the international community.
High on the workshop's agenda will be the best practices to fight illicit trafficking in antiquities, programs and policies that protect cultural heritage and copyrights, laws and mechanisms prohibiting the sale of antiquities in the areas of conflicts in the region and the world, guidelines on protecting cultural properties and determining practices of illicit trafficking and means to combat them.
