Abdulla Al Tamimi
Qatari squash player Abdulla Al Tamimi expressed that he is setting his sights on winning the gold medal in the 19th Asian Games in China next September.
After competing in the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Tour - Windsor Cup 2023 in Canada, his first in nearly six months, Al Tamimi stated that all his focus this year is on the 19th Asian Games.
He said that his summer training and participation in the PSA World Tour tournaments are to prepare him and have him be in the best possible condition to compete in the 19th Asian Games.
He aims to restore his ranking after dropping from 17 to 29 due to injury and following surgery that caused a six-month absence.
Al Tamimi also expressed his gratitude for Aspire Academy and its continuous support over the years and even after his surgery in London. He urges all students at Aspire Academy not to give up when faced with challenges such as injuries.
He stated that he had mixed feelings about his rating for the past few months after he reached a career-high of 17 in the PSA rankings before having to end the season due to the injury.
The 19th Asian Games, which were postponed last year due to COVID-19, are scheduled to kick off on Sep. 23, while the squash matches will start on Sep. 26.
Al Tamimi will also participate in the Paris Squash 2023 which started Sunday, in addition to QTerminals Qatar Classic on September 9.
