Center for Empowerment and Care of the Elderly (Ehsan), an affiliate of Ministry of Social Development and Family's Qatar Social Work Foundation, organized an Alzheimer's Disease awareness walk.
Held under the slogan "not too early, not too late", the walk kicked off from the Katara Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) to Lusail Trail, with the participation of 100 Rafeeq bikes.
The Alzheimer's awareness walk witnessed the participation of large numbers of the public, interested parties, a number of state institutions, and social media celebrities. Additionally, numerous buildings were illuminated in purple in solidarity with and support to the awareness campaign.
Starting on September first, Ehsan Center launched an awareness campaign on Alzheimers disease, whereby the center posted on its social media accounts a series of posts and videos educating about the Alzheimer's Disease, and its prevention methods, in addition to highlighting the need to provide social support for those affected and their families.
The campaign defined the disease as an acquired and gradual brain disorder that leads to a gradual loss of memory, which could be prevented by practicing mental exercises, learning new skills, sports, harnessing social relationships, keeping diabetes and Hypertension (high blood pressure) in check, in addition to eating healthy.
The Ehsan Center thanked all supportive and participating parties, led by the awareness walk's main partner: Rafeeq, in addition to Katara, Qatari Diar, the Ministry of Interior through the General Directorate of Traffic, and all participating youth centers, in addition to the entities that illuminated their buildings in support of awareness campaign, social media influencers and members of the general public who attended the march.
By organizing such events, Ehsan aims to raise awareness on the importance of having a sound understanding of the disease, and its repercussions on individuals and society, in addition to shedding light on all diseases associated with the elderly, and involving the community in providing support for the needs and rights of the elderly.
